| Summary, etc. | RésuméLa notion d’évaluation est rapportée le plus souvent à l’acte consistant à dégager ou juger de la valeur d’un objet, d’une action ou d’une performance, ou encore d’un individu selon une échelle permettant la comparaison. Dans ce sens, il s’agit d’une pratique courante, considérée comme inévitable et nécessaire. On aimerait donc qu’elle soit juste, fondée de façon indiscutable. Cependant, ce vœu est nécessairement un mirage, étant donné ses fonctions occultes, quelle que soit la sophistication des techniques et des méthodes.Mais l’évaluation peut avoir une autre signification que celle d’estimer in fine la valeur d’un objet, acte ou personne. Elle peut aussi être comprise comme le fait de leur attribuer une valeur, de leur donner un sens, non seulement en tant qu’objets finis, mais au fur et à mesure du processus menant à leur réalisation. Tel est le cas pour les œuvres de création artistique, scientifique ou intellectuelle dont la valeur ne se mesure pas essentiellement à leur utilité sociale. Ou encore pour un travail clinique auprès de personnes ou de groupes en difficulté. |

The works of Art caseThe notion of evaluation usually refers to the act of judging the value of an object, an action or a performance, or a person according to a scale allowing comparison. Such an act is considered as unavoidable and necessary. Thus one would like it to be fair, founded and indisputable. However, this wish is inevitably an illusion, given its occult functions, whatever the sophistication of the techniques and methods.But the notion can have another meaning than that of judging the value of an object, act or person. It can also be understood as the fact of awarding them a meaning, a sense, not only as finished objects, but all along the process leading to their realization. Such is notably the case for works of art, of science, or of intellectual creation, whose value is not essentially reported to their social utility. Or even for a clinical work with persons or groups in need of help. |
