| Summary, etc. | RésuméS’interroger sur le bien-être en ville peut paraître secondaire en raison de l’acception actuellement dominante de « ville durable », axée sur une minimisation de sa consommation d’énergie et de son émission de CO2. Il s’agit pourtant, dans cet article, de questionner les interactions entre la dimension olfactive d’un lieu, la sensorialité des êtres humains et leur état de bien-être, à travers l’exemple du quai de RER B à Châtelet-Les halles à Paris. Aux prises avec la complexité de l’olfaction, du processus de perception et du ressenti de bien-être, la recherche sort d’impasses méthodologiques et théoriques grâce au recours aux neurosciences. Ce travail met en valeur l’importance de la condition humaine d’espèce, d’individu et d’être social dans les modalités de perception olfactive. Il s’achève sur de nouvelles interrogations, notamment sur le sens de la relation entre bien-être et odeur : L’odeur influence-t-elle l’état de bien-être ? L’absence de bien-être agit-elle sur le fait que les évaluations olfactives restent essentiellement négatives ? Cette recherche a également pour ambition d’ouvrir avec les neurosciences un dialogue nécessaire. |

| Summary, etc. | Odors at Châtelet-Les Halles Station in Paris. An olfactory approach to wellbeing in the city. Asking the question of wellbeing in the city might appear as a secondary concern given the current sustainable city concept, which concentrates on minimizing energy consumption and reducing CO2 emissions. However this article proposes to reflect on interactions between the olfactory dimension of a place, the sensoriality of human beings and their state of wellbeing based on the example of the RER B subway platform at Châtelet-Les Halles in Paris. Our work had recourse to neurosciences to deal with the complexity of the olfactory sense, the perception process and the feeling of wellbeing. This work highlights the importance of human condition as a species, as individuals and as social beings in the modes of olfactory perception. It ends with raising new questions, in particular about the link between wellbeing and odor: does odor influence the state of wellbeing? Does absence of wellbeing induce a negative olfactory evaluation? Our research aims to foster a much needed dialog with the neurosciences. |
