520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. The history of colonial cities seems relevant to explore the wealth of information that photography can bring to urban history but also to question the production context, the audience and the objectives, related to photographic images. The transformation of Casablanca and the construction of its “European city” are here analysed from two sets of photographs made between 1912 and 1929. The first is the result of a scientific program, the Archives de la Planète, funded by the banker Albert Kahn and coordinated by the geographer Jean Brunhes. The second is the result of Marcelin Flandrins’ professional activity, a photographer was based in Casablanca at the beginning of the century. These two series of photographs show the richness of views on colonial town planning and architecture.
