Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | Burnout, an Urgent Pastoral IssueBurnout affects a sizable part of the active population. An initial article described it and suggested an original reading index to explain its nature as well as its origin: in the context of a society of excess it would be a pathology of the gift of self. This second article applies it to the pastoral care of priests, but also of religious and pastoral workers. Having summarized a sample study conducted in 2004-2005 on the priests of the diocese of Padua, it shows that the priest is particularly exposed to burnout. Listening first to Scripture, it suggests as a remedy a series of means organized on the basis of the three “moments” of the gift: reception, appropriation and donation. |
