520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | The roots and the evolution of the colloquial expression Pieds-Noirs have been debated for a long time. Haphazard explanations have flourished for over 60 years, without ever being supported by reliable sources. Thankfully, serious papers have already studied the subject. It appeared necessary to synthesize them, and to supplement them with new sources. As a result, the origin of the term (in written sources) was quite precisely pinpointed : in 1955 Morocco (and not in Algeria, as most people think). Then, during and after the Algerian War, the term was used to refer to repatriates arriving from the southern shore of the Mediterranean. |
