520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | This study of teenagers captured by sectarian websites is based on psychoanalytic clinical experiences. Unlike other media, such as the press, radio, or television, the internet, through the triple connection of image, sound, and writing, provides sectarian websites with the technological tools to captivate the attention of teenagers. The owners of these websites present a harmful and confusing ideal in order to manipulate the identification of teenagers. In the repetitive virtual isolation, they can easily uproot teenagers from their symbolic order and lock them in a regressive and dangerous imaginary bondage. In this clinical configuration, it is not the imaginary alone that causes the disaster; it is also the failure of the adult’s function as a witness to Language. Care for teenagers captured by sectarian virtual websites would then consist in consolidating and updating this function: encouraging teenagers to cogitate, to think, to reason, and to desire, in the virtual field, but targeting their real symbolic life. |
