| Summary, etc. | Pour faire la promotion de l’Indochine, ouverte à la colonisation française à fin du XIXe siècle, son gouverneur général Paul Doumer définissait les bases d’un projet d’exposition internationale pour l’année 1902. Et pour s’assurer d’un important traitement médiatique, les organisateurs initiaient la création d’un comité de la presse métropolitaine appelé à rejoindre les représentants de la presse coloniale locale - alors florissante - mais aussi de la presse internationale. À travers la redécouverte de cette exposition internationale, bien oubliée de nos jours, il s’agira pour nous d’analyser les relations tissées entre le monde de la presse et la machine coloniale alors à l’œuvre dans ce territoire colonial. Pour ce faire, notre article vise à explorer tant la « petite » que la « grande » histoire de ce comité : les réseaux métropolitains sollicités par les autorités coloniales, sa composition, les conditions matérielles mobilisées et enfin, les retombées médiatiques relevées. |

| Summary, etc. | To promote Indochina, which had been opened up to French colonization at the end of the 19th century, Governor General Paul Doumer laid the foundations for an international exhibition in 1902. And to ensure that the exhibition would receive extensive media coverage, the organizers set up a committee of the metropolitan press, which was to include representatives of the local colonial press - which was flourishing at the time - as well as the international press. By rediscovering this international exhibition, which has now been forgotten, we aim to analyse the relationship between the world of the press and the colonial machine at work in this colonial territory. To this end, our article aims to explore both the ‘small’ and the ‘big’ history of this committee: the metropolitan networks approached by the colonial authorities, its composition, the material conditions mobilized and, lastly, the media spin-offs noted. |
