| Summary, etc. | Elected emir at the head of the tribes of Algeria in 1832, Abd el-Kader (1808-1883) resisted the French conquest for fifteen years. He seeks to embody victory and freedom. Nevertheless, following defeats, Abd el-Kader surrendered to the Duke of Aumale, son of King Louis-Philippe 1st of Orleans and Lieutenant-General Lamoricière. Undergoing perjury, Abd el-Kader was finally imprisoned in France, first at Fort Lamalgue in Toulon, then at Henry IV’s castle in Pau and at the castle of Amboise. During his exile, the Arab prisoner organizes a Muslim micro-society. He was supported by Émile Ollivier, with whom he forged a strong bond of friendship. Ollivier did everything in his power to secure Abd el-Kader’s release. This article reveals the relationship between Émile Ollivier and Abd el-Kader, and provides a better understanding of the complicated nature of his exile in France. |

| Summary, etc. | Élu à la tête des tribus de l’Algérie en 1832, l’émir Abd el-Kader (1808-1883) résiste pendant quinze années à la conquête française. Il cherche à incarner la victoire et la liberté. Néanmoins, à la suite de défaites, Abd el-Kader rend les armes au duc d’Aumale, fils du roi Louis-Philippe 1er d’Orléans et au lieutenant-général Lamoricière. Subissant un parjure, Abd el-Kader est finalement emprisonné en France, d’abord au fort Lamalgue de Toulon, puis au château d’Henry IV de Pau et au château d’Amboise. Pendant son exil, le prisonnier arabe organise une micro-société musulmane. Il est soutenu par Émile Ollivier avec lequel, il tisse un lien d’amitié très fort. Ce dernier va tout faire pour obtenir la libération Abd el-Kader. Cet article permet de dévoiler leurs relations et de mieux comprendre la complexité de l’exil en France d’Abd el-Kader. |
