| Summary, etc. | Béhanzin was a king who ruled over the Danxomè kingdom (current Bénin) from 1890 to 1894. His opposition against the French army in a colonial context led him to deportation. Taken away from his kingdom to Martinique, Behanzin was later deported to Algeria. This story, as matter of fact, is part of the great history of colonial exiles of kings dispossessed from their power by the French colonial army in 19 th and 20 th centuries. The recent historiography contributions to the political exiles of the nineteenth century provide us with more understanding, forms and representations about the deportation of a king deposed by the French colonial authorities. We would like to emphasize the singularity through the itinerary of his life in exile, which mainly combines the geographical dimension and daily life. |

| Summary, etc. | Béhanzin est roi du Danxomè (actuel Bénin) de 1890 à 1894. Étant opposé à l’ingérence française sur son territoire, son règne est marqué par de rudes batailles contre les armées françaises, à la suite desquelles il s’incline et se retrouve en exil, en Martinique et plus tard en Algérie. Se plaçant dans un contexte d’impérialisme français, l’expérience de l’exil du roi Béhanzin sous toutes ses formes rejoint la grande histoire des exils politiques des souverains déchus par les autorités coloniales françaises aux XIXe et XXe siècles. En se fondant sur les récents apports de l’historiographie des exils politiques au XIXe siècle nous permettant de comprendre les conditions, les formes et les représentations de cet éloignement d’un souverain déchu par les autorités françaises, nous voudrions mettre l’accent sur sa singularité à travers l’itinéraire de sa vie d’exil, mêlant principalement dimension géographique et vie quotidienne. |
