| Summary, etc. | L’objectif de l’article est d’analyser le sens du travail chez des surveillants de prison exerçant au sein d’un dispositif appelé « Modules de respect ». L’auteure analyse ce sens à partir de trois facettes : la signification, l’orientation et la cohérence. Pour ce faire, des entretiens ont été menés dans quatre établissements, auprès de 18 surveillants. L’analyse montre notamment que ce dispositif permet aux surveillants de reprendre la main sur la gestion de la détention et apporte davantage de cohérence dans leurs missions. En analysant l’appropriation du dispositif par ces acteurs, l’enjeu est également de cibler les points sur lesquels prend racine la souffrance associée à cette profession et de discuter des dynamiques contradictoires qui continuent malgré tout de le traverser. |

| Summary, etc. | The purpose of this article is to analyze the meaning of work among prison officers working within a system called respect modules. We analyze this meaning from three perspectives: signification, direction, and coherence. To do that, interviews were conducted in four prisons, with eighteen guards. The analysis demonstrates that this system allows prison officers to regain control over the management of the detention and gives their missions and duties more coherence. By analyzing these actors’ use of the system, the aim is also to target the different points in which the suffering associated with this profession takes root and to discuss the contradictory dynamics that, despite all efforts, still exist. |
