| Summary, etc. | L’étude du terme « hartani », en usage dans une partie du Maghreb (arabophone et/ou berbérophone), comprend deux volets. Dans la première partie sont présentés les emplois de ce terme − sa distribution géographique, ses variations phonétiques et sémantiques, ses quasi-synonymes. L’enquête porte, successivement, sur les dialectes arabes et sur les variétés du berbère. Dans la seconde partie, le champ lexical de l’esclavage est revisité à partir des notions de travail et de liberté d’une part, de hiérarchie sociale et de couleurs de peau d’autre part. |

| Summary, etc. | This study of the term « hartani », used in part of the Maghreb (Arabic-speaking and/or Berber-speaking), is divided in two parts. In the first part, the uses of this term are presented – its geographic distribution, its phonetic and semantic variations, its quasi synonyms. The analysis successively focuses on Arabic dialects and Berber varieties. In the second part, the lexical field of slavery is revisited from the perspective of work and freedom on one hand, social hierarchy and skin colors on the other. |
