| Summary, etc. | En 2004, le Parc National du Banc d’Arguin (PNBA), au nord du littoral mauritanien, est décrété sanctuaire pour les raies et les requins. Ce résultat est le fruit d’une collaboration des gestionnaires du PNBA et de ses partenaires étrangers, avec les populations résidentes qui depuis les années 1980 exploitaient les élasmobranches principalement pour leurs ailerons. L’abandon de cette pêcherie dans les eaux du PNBA devait être synonyme d’une reconversion vers une pêcherie plus durable. Cependant, malgré une compensation financière et des promesses d’amélioration du cadre de vie à l’intérieur du Parc, les captures de sélaciens ont considérablement augmenté dans les années qui suivirent l’interdiction officielle. À travers cette tentative de conservation d’espèces à haute valeur commerciale pour les populations locales, nous verrons les limites de l’application et du suivi d’un tel projet dans un pays en développement. |

| Summary, etc. | In 2004, the Banc d’Arguin National Park, at the north of the Mauritanian coastline, was declared as a sharks and rays sanctuary. It is the result of collaboration between the mangers of the PNBA and its foreign partners, with the resident population who, since the 1980’s, have been exploiting elasmobranches, mainly for their fins. The prohibition of this fishery inside the Park, should be synonymous with reconversion on more sustainable fishery. However, in spite of financial compensation and promises to improve the living environment within the Parks, elasmobranches catches had improved in the years following the official ban. Through this attempt to conserve species of high commercial value for local populations, we will see the limits of the application and monitoring of such a project in a developing country. |
