| Summary, etc. | RésuméLors de l’entrevue d’Erfurt (27 septembre – 14 octobre 1808), la Comédie-Française envoyée sur place donna 16 représentations, de tragédies exclusivement. En replaçant ce choix dans la perspective d’une histoire à moyen terme de la présence des comédiens français en Europe, cet article cherche à mettre en valeur l’écart fondamental entre la fonction assignée par Napoléon aux représentations et leur effet sur le public, qui définit le cadre de ce qu’on propose d’appeler une « socio-politique » des genres. |

| Summary, etc. | The Socio-politics of Genre: the Comédie-Française at Erfurt, or on the Misuse of Tragedy (1808)During the Congress of Erfurt (September 27th – October 4th 1808), the Comédie-Française, which had been summoned there by Napoleon, gave 16 shows, consisting entirely of tragedies. When put into perspective in the longer run with the presence of French comedians in the princely courts of Europe, this choice points to the gap between Napoleon’s use of the theatre and its effect on the aristocratic public gathered at Erfurt, defining what might be called a “socio-politics” of genre |
