| Summary, etc. | RésuméDepuis quelques années, nous assistons à un très important renouvellement historiographique sur le Second Empire, particulièrement dans le domaine politique. Après avoir expliqué les raisons du retard accumulé jusque-là, puis le retour en grâce de la période, cet article passe en revue les grands champs de la recherche actuelle. Il évoque d’abord la biographie individuelle et collective. Dans un deuxième temps, il inventorie les avancées récentes dans notre connaissance du bonapartisme, de l’État napoléonien et de ses représentations, mais aussi des institutions centrales comme des pouvoirs locaux. Il revient, pour finir, sur les travaux concernant le coup d’État du 2 décembre, les différentes sensibilités oppositionnelles, la presse, les réunions et les élections. Au fil de ses développements, il suggère quelques chantiers pour l’avenir. |

| Summary, etc. | For some years now, we have seen a major renewal in the historiography of the Second Empire, mostly in the political field. In this paper, the author mentions the reasons why historians neglected the study of the period for so long and then regained interest in it. He then examines the major fields of current research. He proceeds to show how the biographic genre has evolved whether it be individual or collective biography. He looks into the latest progress in our knowledge of Bonapartism, the Napoleonic State and its representations as well as central institutions such as local powers. Finally, we find a presentation of the current research on political ideas and their implementation. The author mentions the most innovatory studies on the Coup of December 2, the different opposition parties, the press, the meetings and the ballots. He also suggests several directions for future studies. |
