| Summary, etc. | RésuméCette contribution examine les effets de deux dispositifs participatifs sur l’action publique au travers du cas particulier de la régulation locale de l’islam à Bruxelles. En effet, en dépit de la littérature académique actuelle sur la participation, lorsqu’il s’agit du lien qui peut être fait entre participation politique et minorités ethniques et/ou religieuses, de nombreuses questions restent en suspens. Par conséquent, dans cette contribution, je tente de concilier ces deux dimensions en montrant que la question de l’islam en Europe peut être appréhendée par l’étude de l’investissement de leaders musulmans dans le cadre d’instruments formels et informels de participation. Plus généralement, les résultats de cette enquête mettent en lumière dans quelle mesure les contextes politiques, institutionnels et démographiques encadrent l’engagement et la participation politiques d’une minorité religieuse. |

| Summary, etc. | Concertation and negotiation. A particular case study: the local regulation of Islam in BrusselsThis paper examines the effects of participatory devices on public action through the particular case study of the local regulation of Islam in Brussels. Indeed, despite the current extensive academic literature on participation issues, when it comes to the link with ethnic and, notably, religious minorities, many questions remain unanswered. Consequently, in this paper, I try to conciliate these two dimensions by showing that the question of Islam in Europe can be apprehended by the study of Muslim leaders’ investment in formal and informal participatory devices. More generally, the findings bring to light how political, institutional and demographic environments shape the political engagement and participation of a religious minority. |
