| Summary, etc. | La réalité virtuelle offre aujourd’hui un nouveau paradigme d’interaction homme-machine dans lequel l’utilisateur n’est pas considéré comme un simple spectateur externe observant des images défilant sur un écran, mais comme un acteur participant activement à la construction et à la transformation d’un monde virtuel en trois dimensions. Ce n’est que très récemment que les psychothérapeutes se sont saisis des possibilités offertes par la réalité virtuelle. Les technologies du virtuel ont la particularité de simuler certaines situations et d’exposer les patients à ces situations tout en en contrôlant les caractéristiques. En ce sens, la réalité virtuelle est considérée comme un outil de réalisme, qui permet de mieux gérer le réel. Récemment, la réalité virtuelle connaît de nouveaux domaines d’application notamment dans le traitement de la distorsion de l’image du corps dans l’anorexie mentale et dans la schizophrénie, l’acrophobie ou peur des hauteurs, la peur de tomber chez les personnes âgées et chez les patients atteints de maladies neurologiques. |

| Summary, etc. | Virtual reality : a tool of realismVirtual reality offers a new paradigm of human-machine interaction, in which the user is not considered as a simple external spectator observing the images on a screen, but as an actor who participates to the building and transforming of a virtual world in three dimensions. It is only recently that the psychotherapists have focused on the possibilities of virtual reality. Virtual technologies allow patients to simulate certain situations and to expose them to those situations within controlled environments. Thus, virtual reality is considered as a tool of realism, and helps patients to deal with reality. Recently, virtual reality has been used for diverse fields of application, such as the treatment of body image distortions in anorexia and in schizophrenia, acrophobia or fear of heights, fear of falling in elderly patients and in patients suffering from neurological disorders. |
