| Summary, etc. | La France a été touchée, depuis le début de l’année 2015, par une vague de violence perpétrée au nom de l’islam. Ces événements ont été saisis au prisme de la « radicalisation », ce terme étant donné comme leur clef explicative. Pourtant s’associe à ce dernier une ambiguïté fondamentale. Afin d’élucider celle-ci, nous avons procédé à une exploration systématique des contextes sémantiques dans lesquels le terme est convoqué par un grand quotidien français, en l’occurrence Le Monde, entre 1950 et aujourd’hui. Cette étude a permis, dans un premier temps, de distinguer quatre champs sémantiques de la radicalité et, dans un second temps, de mettre en évidence, à partir de 2004, un processus d’individualisation et de dépolitisation de la notion. Son usage actuel et restrictif coïncide, en l’occurrence, avec une perspective strictement déterministe sur les phénomènes stigmatisés de violence et d’adhésion à l’islam. |

| Summary, etc. | France was affected in 2015 by a wave of violence done in the name of islam. The concept of radicalization was widely used to describe these events, as a key concept. However, the concept of radicalization is problematic. To elucidate this, we have examined semantic contexts in which the word was used in Le Monde, from the fifties to today. The results of our study show that the word appeared in four different semantic fields, and, from 2004, a process of individualization and depoliticization of the concept. Such a restrictive use of the word « radicalization » coincides with a deterministic perspective on the relationship between terrorism and conversion to radical islam. |
