| Summary, etc. | Dans cet article, nous interrogeons l’engouement croissant autour des tiers-lieux, issus de mouvements contre-culturels tels que les hackers, auprès d’institutions et collectivités locales ainsi que de grandes entreprises de l’immobilier. Pour comprendre son succès, nous proposons avec la sociologie de la justification d’appréhender le tiers-lieu comme point d’appui à la construction d’un compromis civico-marchand dans la fabrique de la ville. Ce compromis permet ainsi de répondre à deux processus opposés – les difficultés de financement des politiques publiques urbaines et la montée des risques de contestation des grands projets urbains – en transférant ces risques socio-économiques des acteurs publics vers les acteurs privés. Pour notre démonstration, nous nous appuierons sur une enquête réalisée chez des entrepreneur·es de la cause des tiers-lieux qui œuvrent à la construction et à la consolidation de ce compromis civico-marchand. |

| Summary, etc. | In this article, we explore the strong interest in third places—which originated from countercultural movements such as the hacker movement—among institutions and local authorities as well as large real estate companies. In order to understand its success, we propose, based on the sociology of justification, to understand the third place as a support point for the construction of a civic-market compromise in the making of the city. This compromise makes it possible to respond to two opposing processes—the difficulties of financing urban public policies and the rise in the threats of contestation of large urban projects—by transferring these socioeconomic risks from public actors to private actors. For our demonstration, we will rely on a survey of entrepreneurs involved in the construction and consolidation of this civic-market compromise. |
