| Summary, etc. | The increasing use of digital social networks (DSNs) in collective action attests to the importance these platforms have gained in activist practices. Far from being mere tools for content ranking, DSNs structure interactions between users. This article demonstrates that certain social movements are currently engaging in what we propose to call “algorithmic manifestations” which are strategies of protest groups aimed at leveraging the known or imagined characteristics of DSN algorithms to promote their political and social interests. The investigation is based on a study of the so-called “anti-gender” movement in Latin America, a right-wing and far-right transnational movement that opposes feminism, LGBT+ advances, and the concept of gender as a “social construct”. The analysis of the algorithmic aspect of their repertoire of action allows us to account for the activist investments made regarding the real or perceived “influence” of DSNs in the political field and the space of social movements. It highlights the processes of reappropriation of DSNs by users sensitive to these forms of propaganda. The main result of the investigation, conducted through semi-structured interviews and content analysis with 116 Latin American “anti-gender” groups in eleven different countries, is the surprising consensus expressed by the participants regarding the consideration of algorithms in their activist practices: this dimension of their activity is identified by all participants, regardless of their level of professionalization in the media, institutional affiliation, country of origin, and audience of their page. |

| Summary, etc. | L’usage croissant des réseaux sociaux numériques (RSN) dans l’action collective atteste de l’importance prise par ces plateformes dans les pratiques militantes. Loin d’être de simples outils de hiérarchisation des contenus (ranking), les RSN structurent les interactions entre utilisateurs. Cet article montre que certains mouvements sociaux mènent actuellement ce que l’on se propose d’appeler des « manifestations d’algorithme », c’est-à-dire des stratégies de groupes protestataires ayant pour objectif d’utiliser les caractéristiques connues ou imaginées des algorithmes des RSN, pour promouvoir leurs intérêts politiques et sociaux. L’enquête repose sur une étude du mouvement dit « anti-genre » en Amérique latine, un mouvement transnational de droite et d’extrême droite qui s’oppose au féminisme, aux avancées LGBT+ et au concept de genre comme « construit social ». L’analyse du volet algorithmique de leur répertoire d’action permet de rendre compte des investissements militants opérés sur « l’influence » réelle ou supposée des RSN dans le champ politique et l’espace des mouvements sociaux. Elle met en lumière les processus de réappropriation des RSN par des usagers sensibles à ces formes de propagande. Le principal résultat de l’enquête, conduite par entretiens semi-directifs et analyse de contenu auprès de 116 groupes « anti-genre » latino-américains dans onze pays différents, est l’étonnant consensus exprimé par les enquêtés au sujet de la prise en compte des algorithmes dans leurs pratiques militantes : cette dimension de leur activité est identifiée par tous les participants, indépendamment de leur niveau de professionnalisation dans les médias, de leur affiliation institutionnelle, de leur pays d’origine et de l’audience de leur page. |
