L’exercice demeure cependant ambigu : s’agit-il d’affirmer l’unité de l’Europe, ou d’y dessiner des espaces séparés ? Tant à l’est de l’Europe qu’au sud, en Méditerranée, les approches européenne et américaine semblent s’appuyer sur des visions différentes.
