| Summary, etc. | Cette contribution se propose de présenter la manière dont l’Inde a pensé le problème de l’esthétique, à travers le théâtre et la poésie notamment, mais de telle sorte que, aujourd’hui encore, tous les arts s’y reconnaissent. Le texte de référence, le Nāṭyaśāstra ou Traité du théâtre, attribué à Bharata, bien qu’il hérite d’une tradition plus ancienne, date du début de notre ère ; il a donné lieu, parmi tant d’autres, à un commentaire magistral, l’ Abhinavabhāratī, par Abhinavagupta, maître du śivaïsme cachemirien. L’expérience esthétique, rapprochée de la pratique spirituelle ou mystique, est décrite, conceptualisée et interprétée dans la constante préoccupation de lier la présentation des formes concrètes de sa mise en œuvre au caractère ineffable de l’expérience, dont l’essence est la joie. |

| Summary, etc. | This contribution seeks to present the manner in which India has considered the problem of aesthetics, principally through theatre and poetry, but in a way that is, still today, relevant to all the arts. The main text, the Nāṭyaśāstra or Treatise on Theatre, attributed to Bharata, although heir to an older tradition, dates from the beginning of our era. It has been the subject of many commentaries, including the authoritative Abhinavabhāratī, by Abhinavagupta, master of Kashmirean Sivaism. Aesthetic experience, related to spiritual and mystical practice, is described, conceptualized, and interpreted with a constant concern to link the presentation of the concrete forms employed to the ineffable character of experience, the essence of which is joy. |
