| Summary, etc. | Peu de penseurs ont théorisé sur la bêtise. L’un d’eux (A. Roger) a avancé récemment une hypothèse stimulante pour rendre compte de la co-occurrence de la bêtise et de l’intelligence. Elle porte sur l’immanence de la bêtise chez tout être rationnel : la bêtise serait inscrite dans le principe même des lois de la logique. Dans cet article, je propose, en complément à cette hypothèse, une autre hypothèse pour brosser un tableau plus complet de la bêtise. Cette hypothèse fait valoir que la raison mobilisée dans l’atteinte d’une fin peut elle aussi, dans son principe, conduire à la bêtise. Par l’examen de diverses figures types de notre culture, ainsi que de cas inspirés de la vie réelle, je tente de montrer comment ces deux hypothèses peuvent donner un tableau plus complet de la bêtise. |

| Summary, etc. | Few thinkers have theorized the concept of stupidity. One of them (A. Roger) has recently stated an inspiring hypothesis to give an account of the co-existence of stupidity and intelligence. It deals with the immanence of stupidity in every rational being : stupidity would be enshrined in the very principle of the laws of logic. In this article, to complete his theory, I propose another hypothesis, to give a more complete picture of stupidity. This hypothesis argues that the reason involved to reach an aim may also, in its principle, lead to stupidity. Through the analysis of diverse typical models of our culture, as well as cases from real life, I try to show how those two hypotheses can give a more complete picture of stupidity. |
