| Summary, etc. | Cet article entend montrer comment la philosophie de T. W. Adorno permet de pallier les deux limites de la conception traditionnelle de l’esprit critique. Non seulement cette conception traditionnelle laisse l’esprit critique indéterminé, mais elle le fait également reposer sur le présupposé idéaliste d’un individu libre et autonome à même d’interroger, par la seule force de sa pensée, les opinions reçues. Au contraire, Adorno détermine l’esprit critique en lui donnant un objet, une finalité, une forme, une condition de possibilité, une genèse réelle ainsi que les moyens de sa mise en œuvre effective, et réoriente toutes ces déterminations dans une perspective matérialiste. Il contribue ainsi au projet d’une philosophie renouvelée de l’esprit critique d’une indéniable actualité. |

| Summary, etc. | This paper endeavors to explain how T. W. Adorno’s philosophy overcomes the two limitations of the traditional conception of critical thinking. Not only does this traditional conception fail to provide a determinate notion of critical thinking, it also bases it upon the idealistic presupposition of a free and autonomous individual who would be able to question conventional wisdom with the power of his thought alone. In contrast, Adorno gives critical thinking an object, a purpose, a form, a condition of possibility, an empirical genesis and the means of implementing it, and he understands all these determinations from a materialist perspective. Thus, he contributes to the project of a renewed philosophy of critical thinking, which is undeniably topical in this day and age. |
