| Summary, etc. | Comment lire philosophiquement Les Misérables ? Dans la période récente, c’est une approche sociale et politique qui a été privilégiée, en particulier chez Macherey et chez Badiou. Bien que parfaitement légitime et éclairante, elle doit cependant être complétée : le roman de Victor Hugo non seulement supporte différentes interprétations, mais les encourage explicitement. On est loin du monolithe mélodramatique et humanitaire auquel on le réduit parfois. L’article cherche à montrer que cette pluralité devient sensible dans certains moments clés de l’ouvrage qui entrent clairement en résonance avec certains motifs de la pensée de Kant (en particulier autour du Devoir) et de Hegel (en particulier autour de l’idée d’une rationalité de l’Histoire). |

| Summary, etc. | How can we read Les Misérables philosophically? In recent years a social and political approach has found favor, particularly in the analyses of Pierre Macherey and Alain Badiou. Although perfectly legitimate and enlightening, this is not sufficient in itself: not only is Victor Hugo’s novel open to different interpretations, but it also explicitly encourages them, for it is far from being the melodramatic humanitarian monolith to which it is sometimes reduced. The article seeks to show how this plurality comes to light in certain key moments of the novel which clearly resonate with motifs in the thinking of Kant (particularly around the question of Duty) and in Hegel (particularly around the idea of the rationality of History). |
