| Summary, etc. | Une vaste littérature a été consacrée aux notions de droite et de gauche politiques. Cet article vise une nouvelle approche du phénomène en adoptant un point de vue délibérément théorique. Au lieu de se demander ce que « sont » la gauche et la droite, la question est de déterminer quel type de politique se pense à travers ces catégories. Partant de la nature spatiale de ces dernières, Thierry Leterre interroge leur projection en politique et montre qu'elles coïncident avec une « démocratie de sens ». Il oppose celle-ci à la « démocratie de rébellion », et à la « démocratie d'acclamation », ainsi qu'à la gestion technocratique des affaires politiques, trois formes politiques résultant de l'ambition de se débarrasser des concepts de droite et de gauche. |

| Summary, etc. | A vast literature has been dedicated to the notion of the political right and left. This article aims at a new approach to the phenomenon by assuming a deliberately theoretical viewpoint, and by flipping over the perspective. Instead of wondering what the left and the right “are,” the question should be what type of politics is allowed by the use of such notions. Starting with the fact that right and left are spatial notions, Thierry Leterre examines their projection into politics and shows that they coincide with the politics of “meaningful democracy.” He contrasts this type with the “rebellious democracy” type and the “acclamation democracy” type, as well as with the technocratic management of political affairs. Eventually, he identifies these political forms as possible outcomes of the ambition to get rid of the concepts of the right and the left. |
