| Summary, etc. | This article analyzes the institutional reconfiguration of social engagement within French professional sports from the perspective of public action. The institutionalization by public policies of foundations and endowment funds has led an increasing number of professional clubs to create them to carry out their social engagement. As mechanisms, these structures dedicated to social engagement (SDES) are juxtaposed with those of missions of general interest (MIG), allowing local authorities to require them to undertake social actions in exchange for subsidies. We use the institutional logics (IL) approach to characterize the differences between these two mechanisms. Using expert interviews and legal-administrative texts, we show the opposing dynamics of the combination of ILs associated with them. For each mechanism, our results also highlight their shortcomings in terms of public action, whose relevance is questioned. Theoretically, the main contribution lies in the proposal of a multi-level analysis of the institutionalization of mechanisms with identical objectives by public policies acting at different levels. Practically, this article calls for a renovation of the social engagement model of professional sports. The juxtaposition of mechanisms, in fact, complicates the task of monitoring direct public aid in the case of MIG, and indirect in the case of SDES, raising the risk of identical engagement being doubly funded by the public sphere. |

| Summary, etc. | Cet article analyse la reconfiguration institutionnelle de l’engagement social au sein du sport professionnel français sous l’angle de l’action publique. L’institutionnalisation par les politiques publiques de fondations et fonds de dotation a conduit un nombre croissant de clubs professionnels à en créer pour porter leur engagement. En tant que dispositif, ces structures dédiées à l’engagement social (SDES) se juxtaposent toutefois à celui des missions d’intérêt général (MIG) permettant aux collectivités d’exiger des clubs la réalisation d’actions sociales en échange de subventions. Nous utilisons l’approche des logiques institutionnelles (LI) pour caractériser les différences entre ces deux dispositifs. À l’aide d’entretiens d’experts et de textes juridico-administratifs, nous montrons les dynamiques contraires de la combinaison des LI qui leur sont associées. Pour chaque dispositif, nos résultats mettent également en avant leurs failles en matière d’action publique dont la cohérence est questionnée. Sur un plan théorique, le principal apport réside dans la proposition d’une analyse multiniveau de l’institutionnalisation de dispositifs aux objectifs identiques par des politiques publiques agissant à différents niveaux. Sur un plan pratique, cet article invite à une rénovation du modèle d’engagement social du sport professionnel. La juxtaposition des dispositifs rend, en effet, complexe le travail de contrôle des aides publiques directes dans le cas des MIG, et indirectes dans le cas des SDES et fait planer le risque d’un engagement identique doublement financé par la sphère publique. |
