| Summary, etc. | Cet article s'attache à reconstituer l'histoire de la Faculté de droit d'Alger pendant la colonisation française depuis sa création en 1879 jusqu'à la nécessaire reconversion de ses professeurs en 1962 après l'indépendance de l'Algérie. Cette institution fut symptomatique de toute l'ambivalence du projet colonial français en terre algérienne. S'adressant exclusivement aux étudiants européens, elle avait été conçue par ses professeurs non comme une institution coloniale, mais comme une faculté de province. Pourtant, pour l'imposer dans le champ universitaire métropolitain, les premiers directeurs cherchèrent à cultiver sa spécificité et son expertise sur les questions coloniales, au risque de la marginaliser à l'avenir. Cette stratégie, efficace dans un premier temps, fut abandonnée après 1945 au profit d'une réorientation des enseignements vers les matières traditionnelles de la discipline juridique, ce qui favorisa la reconversion des professeurs algérois après 1962. |

| Summary, etc. | A French University in a Colonial Land. Birth and Reconversion of the Algerian Law School (1879-1962) This article seeks to study the history of the Algerian Law School {Faculté de droit dAlger) during French colonization from its foundation in 1879 until the independence of Algeria. This académie institution reveals the ambiguity of the French colonial project: targeted at European students, it was conceived not as a colonial institution, but as a provincial university. However, in order to impose it in the French metropolitan académie field, its successive directors contributed to the construction of its unique expertise in colonial légal issues. The strategy was very efficient at first, but lead to the marginalization of the institution. Therefore, after 1945 the new director reoriented the lectures and specialties taught towards a more classical conception of the law school. Later on, this new policy played an important rôle in the réintégration of Algiers' académies in the French System after 1962. |
