Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | The notion of transaction has been essential for American institutionalist economics since its foundation. For J.R. Commons, transaction is defined as a central part of the process of making collective rules intended to hedge individual behaviours against uncertainty. It is therefore linked with the pragmatist approach and the specific temporality of individual behaviours. From a different standpoint, new institutionalists mainly study the costs of transactions as a metaphor for the market frictions, which implies a narrow view of the transaction as a market exchange. |
