| Summary, etc. | Alors que le débat concernant la compatibilité du libre arbitre et de la thèse métaphysique du déterminisme causal, toujours présente en arrière-fond des sciences contemporaines, ne semble pas trouver d’issue en philosophie analytique, nous nous concentrerons ici sur l’étude des mécanismes attentionnels tels qu’ils sont théorisés par les neurosciences cognitives. Nous montrerons en quoi ces mécanismes peuvent nous éclairer sur la frontière, parfois floue, entre processus conscients et inconscients. Cette distinction conscient/inconscient constitue selon nous le cœur du problème qui nous préoccupe, et participe très fortement d’une remise en question de la notion de libre arbitre, ainsi que de celle de « contrôle » qui lui est associée. Nous nous appuierons à la fois sur une analyse conceptuelle de la notion de libre arbitre ainsi que sur les données empiriques issues des neurosciences cognitives de l’attention, afin de fournir une redéfinition possible du libre arbitre à la lumière des données expérimentales actuellement disponibles. Nous montrerons qu’une capacité longitudinale à modifier notre propre devenir pourrait passer par l’apprentissage de la maîtrise de nos capacités attentionnelles. |

| Summary, etc. | Neuroscience and redirection of attention techniques : towards a redefinition of free will as an apprenticeship of the mastery of our attentional capacitiesWhile the debate over the compatibility of free will and the metaphysical thesis of causal determinism (which is still present in the background of contemporary science) does not seem to find a solution in analytical philosophy, I will focus here on the study of attentional mechanisms as they are theorized by cognitive neuroscience. I will show how these mechanisms can inform us as to the - sometimes blurry - frontier between conscious and unconscious processes. This conscious/unconscious distinction is, according to me, at the heart of the problem at hand, and is greatly involved in the questioning of the notion of free will, but also of the related notion of « control ». I will rely upon both a conceptual analysis of the notion of free will and on the empirical data taken from the cognitive neuroscience of attention, in order to formulate a possible redefinition of free will in light of the experimental data which is currently available. I will show that a longitudinal capacity to modify one’s own future could require the apprenticeship of the mastery of one’s attentional capacities. |
