| Summary, etc. | Le développement des psychothérapies au cours du XXe siècle a mené à une multiplication considérable des pratiques thérapeutiques. Cet article entend retracer l’histoire de ce processus qui a lentement brouillé les considérations théoriques sur les troubles mentaux, leur étiologie et leur thérapie. Cette histoire permet d’entrevoir à quelle logique a répondu l’intégration, dans une pratique, de divers outils thérapeutiques. Ce courant intégratif a pris sa source dans l’aménagement aux États-Unis de la psychanalyse freudienne. Ses concepts ont rapidement été traduits dans un langage théorique proche des conceptions de l’apprentissage, puis dans celui de la nécessaire adaptation des conduites à l’environnement social en particulier. Ces remaniements se sont déroulés sur le fond d’une exigence morale d’authenticité et de courage devant l’existence, qui a entre autre valorisé le concept d’alliance thérapeutique et relativisé les débats théoriques. Il nous semble que le développement spectaculaire des psychothérapies intégratives ne peut manquer de soulever des questions théoriques essentielles et d’appeler à une théorie intégrative du fonctionnement mental. |

| Summary, etc. | Is Psychotherapy necessarily integrative ?The development of psychotherapies in the 20th century has led to a considerable increase of the number of therapeutic practices. This article seeks to trace the history of this process that slowly blurred theoretical considerations concerning mental disorders, their aetiology and their therapy. This history helps to understand the logical grounds of the integration, in practices, of a variety of therapeutic tools. This integrative trend has its source in the layout in the United States of Freudian psychoanalysis. Its concepts were quickly translated first into a theoretical language that is akin to conceptions of learning and then into a language closely related to the necessary adaptation of conducts to their social environment. These reorganizations occurred on the background of a moral requirement of authenticity and courage in front of life, which among other things, valued the concept of therapeutic alliance and put theoretical debates into perspective. The considerable development of integrative psychotherapies calls for debating some essential issues such as, for instance, the requirement to ground an integrative theory of mental function on these psychotherapeutic practices. |
