| Summary, etc. | L’essor des sciences cognitives aujourd’hui permet-il à celles-ci de servir de métathéorie globale pour le domaine de la psychothérapie ? Nous proposons d’abord un bref aperçu des principaux axes de réflexion survenus au cours du développement de la psychothérapie au cours des cent dernières années. Le nombre croissant de points de vue sur la pratique rend le domaine de plus en plus divers et fragmenté ; cependant, les sciences cognitives ont maintenant atteint un point où elles peuvent appréhender les principes psychothérapeutiques clés. Un certain nombre d’auteurs ont présenté un panorama détaillé allant dans ce sens, certains d’un point de vue psychodynamique, et d’autres d’un point de vue psychothérapique plus générique. Nous décrivons ensuite des domaines clés de la science cognitive et leurs liens avec les notions de processus conscients et inconscients, puis nous montrons comment ceux-ci peuvent être appliqués de façon simple et générale à la pratique quotidienne. Enfin, nous suggérons que les sciences cognitives, en tant que métathéorie de la psychothérapie, pourraient apporter de nouvelles contributions à la recherche sur les problèmes courants des personnes suivies en psychothérapie. |

| Summary, etc. | Cognitive science : a framework for unifying theory and practice in psychotherapy today ?This article discusses the proposition that cognitive science has now developed to the point where it can serve as an overarching meta-theory for field of psychotherapy. It will begin with an overview of the main strands of thinking which have emerged in the development of psychotherapy over the last 100 years. The ever increasing number of perspectives and views around practice make the field increasing differentiated and fragmented. However, cognitive science has now reached a point where it can explain and capture the key psychotherapeutic principles. A number of authors have presented detailed overviews along these lines, some coming from a psychodynamic perspective and some from a more generic psychotherapy perspective. The article goes on to describe some of the key strands of cognitive science, and how these relate to notions of conscious and unconscious processes. It then shows how these can be applied to everyday practice. Finally it is argued that cognitive science as a meta-theory for psychotherapy has the potential to bring benefits to the field in terms of future research on common client issues as the practice of therapy. |
