| Summary, etc. | RésuméQuelles que soient les dénominations (social-démocratie ou socialisme) qui font encore débat parfois en France, il apparaît que ce modèle générique a atteint la fin d’un cycle historique. Il convient donc de s’accorder sur les termes de cette crise en postulant qu’elle n’est pas synonyme de disparition mais de recomposition. Dans cette perspective, les pratiques des partis du Sud de l’Europe, leurs trajectoires électorales et gouvernementales pourrait esquisser les variables d’une refondation. Le fait qu’elles soient généralement occultées au profit de « voies septentrionales » du socialisme rend plus nécessaire le retour sur cette aire politico-culturelle. |

| Summary, etc. | While there may persist in France a debate concerning labels – socialism or social democracy – it seems clear that we are witnessing the end of a historic cycle for this generic model. What is important is to get beyond terminology in order to agree that, while there certainly is a crisis, what we see is symptomatic not of the disappearance but rather of the recomposition of the model. In this perspective, the practices observed by the parties of southern Europe, their electoral trajectories and governmental experiences, can help us to sketch out the variables central to a reformulation of the problem. The fact that this evolution is often obscured by the focus on the “northern” paths of socialism only increases the urgency of a new look at this political and cultural area. |
