| Summary, etc. | Cet article étudie l’articulation des processus de déterritorialisation et reterritorialisation à l’œuvre dans les lieux d’habitat rural, coopératif et écologique. La terminologie varie, depuis l’« écovillage » à l’« éco-hameau » en passant par l’« éco-lotissement », mais ce sont toujours des groupes d’individus qui choisissent de s’installer dans un espace rural afin d’adopter un mode de vie écologiquement rigoureux. Nous cherchons à comprendre ce que modifie dans le rapport au territoire ce type d’action collective particulier que la littérature anglophone qualifie de « prefigurative ». Nous montrons que celle-ci se construit, tant dans la trajectoire que dans le discours des habitants, en réaction à un mode de vie urbain perçu comme excessivement impersonnel et standardisé. Elle s’accompagne aussi d’une critique du répertoire d’action collective dominant. De là résulte un processus de mobilisation à partir de l’habitat et vers le territoire local. L’autochtonie, dévalorisée par la norme moderne de la mobilité, constitue ici un horizon désirable et souhaitable. Cette quête d’autochtonie, condamnée d’avance à l’inachèvement, produit néanmoins des effets de socialisation durables sur les habitants. |

| Summary, etc. | This paper aims to study the connection between deterritorialisation and reterritorialisation process in rural eco-cohousing projects. Their labels might vary, from “ecovillage” to “eco-community”, but we can reduce all of them to a group of people who choose to settle in a rural environment in order to achieve high ecological standards of living. We want to understand how this peculiar style of protest, that some has called “prefigurative”, changes their relation to territory. Both in the trajectories of the inhabitants and in their discourses, we observe that this style of protest emerges from ordinary urban lifestyles, which are perceived as impersonal and standardised. It also comes with criticisms of the existing dominant repertoire of oppositional collective action. The consequence is a mobilisation process that comes out of the housing space and targets the nearby local environment. Autochthony becomes a desirable goal, whereas the modern norm of mobility has depreciated it. This quest for autochthony might be condemned to be incomplete, but it will have long-lasting socialisation effects. |
