| Summary, etc. |
| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | Spa therapy and climatotherapy are traditional treatment that use the benefits of the environment on health. They are therapeutic interventions using products derived from hydromineral resources (Spa therapy) and the effects of the climate during a stay in a place with favourable environmental characteristics (climatotherapy). These ancestral therapies are based on a holistic approach aimed at treating the pathology and contributing to the overall state of health. The therapeutic process of spa therapy is complex, combining the physiological effects of spring water with the psychological effects related to the symbolism of water and mud, the quality of the climatic, social and human environment. The main objective of psychosomatic spa treatment is to reduce the patient’s perceived level of suffering in a sustainable way, to allow a reduction of the drugs usually consumed and to improve the patient’s quality of life. The cure allows the patient to reconnect with autobiographical moments rich in symbols (birth, relationship with others, function of the skin-ego) which are particularly beneficial for psychotic and anxious patients. Water binds as much as it separates. Psychologically oriented spa treatment aims at multidisciplinary care, avoiding stigmatisation, could participate in the care of patients suffering from post-traumatic stress, particularly in the current post-Covid-19 context. |
