| Summary, etc. | RésuméLa présente étude a pour objectifs de décrire et comparer les caractéristiques relatives à la structure familiale, aux caractéristiques des parents et aux pratiques éducatives parentales associées à la consommation de psychotropes chez les enfants de moins de 12 ans et de déterminer celles qui y sont les plus fortement associées. Les participants sont 226 enfants (137 filles), âgés en moyenne de 10,98 ans (é.t. 0.64). Les résultats indiquent que c’est sur le plan des pratiques éducatives parentales que se distinguent principalement les enfants initiés à la consommation et ceux ne s’y étant pas initiés. Parmi les caractéristiques de l’étude, ce sont la qualité de l’engagement parental et la présence de constance de la discipline, qui distinguent le plus fortement les enfants de deux groupes, avantageant les enfants non initiés à la consommation de psychotropes. Ces résultats sont discutés en fonction des retombées pour la prévention et l’intervention. |

| Summary, etc. | The purpose of this study is to describe and compare family characteristics associated with consumption of psychotropic substances among children under 12 years old and to identify those that are most strongly associated with it. Participants are 226 children (137 girls), mean age of 10,98 years of age (s.d. 0,64). Results suggest that there are no significant differences between groups with regards to family structure as well as parents’ personal characteristics. For familial characteristics, children initiated to substance consumption report a lower parental involvement, a frequent use of positive educational practices, a discipline more inconsistent and a gap in parental supervision. Among these characteristics, it is parental involvement and consistency of discipline that better distinguish the two groups, benefiting children uninitiated to substances consumption. |
