520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. The perception of careers’ attitudes by elders with alcohol misuse an exploratory study at the hospitalWhile the prevalence of alcohol misuse remains stable with age, and while populations are ageing, questions about alcoholic addiction in elderly subjects are becoming a daily concern for health professionals. Asking how elders feel about caregivers’ attitudes is a first step in order to approach doctor-patient relations. A prospective exploratory and observatory study among 14 subjects aged 65 and above has resulted in 21 exchanges with carers. 8 men and 6 women, with a mean age of 71, with alcohol dependency (79%) or alcohol abuse (21%) were studied. Talking about alcohol is viewed as a help, a relief or an opportunity in 58% of cases, but also a bother, a shame or an aggression in 29%. These results seem to be less positive than caregivers’ statements recorded in a previous study, but overall they remain favourable. Taking into account caregiving attitudes towards alcohol misusing elders is a possible way to identify and then take into consideration alcoholic suffering among elders. The development of quality care requires knowledge of what alcohol misusing elders are expecting from caregivers. Professionals simply cannot unilaterally decide what would be good for them.
