| Summary, etc. | RésuméCe travail retrace l’évolution des psychothérapies à la fin du XIXe siècle et souligne en quoi le concept de transfert chez Freud permet de dépasser l’opposition entre psychothérapie par la suggestion (Bernheim et Liébault) et psychothérapie par la persuasion (Dubois de Berne, Déjerine). Les débuts de la pratique médicale de Freud sont rappelés et l’influence de son installation sur le développement de ses idées est discutée : le renoncement à une carrière universitaire, le fait de travailler en cabinet privé, hors des institutions asilaires, et le type de clientèle qu’il a dû soigner sont des facteurs qui ont manifestement joué un rôle dans l’évolution de ses idées. Parmi celles-ci, la place prise par le développement du concept de transfert dans les premiers textes de Freud, notamment les textes pré-analytiques, est relevée et discutée. Le transfert permet de renvoyer dos à dos suggestion et persuasion et de s’interroger spécifiquement sur la relation thérapeutique. Mais les liens qu’entretiennent psychanalyse, thérapies hypnotiques et psychothérapies par la persuasion, dont les actuels psychothérapies cognitives, qui en sont probablement les héritières, sont loin d’être tous éclaircis. |

| Summary, etc. | In retracing the evolution of psychotherapies up until the end of the 19th century, this article underlines how the concept of transference was able to go beyond the battle between psychotherapies through suggestion and psychotherapies through persuasion (Dubois de Berne, Déjerine). The beginnings of Freud’s medical practice are reviewed and the influence of having founded his practice on the development of these ideas is discussed. Having given up the pursuit of a university career, and opened a private practice, away from mental institutions, with the type of clientele that he now had to treat, became factors that contributed to the development of his ideas. Among these the concept of transference in Freud’s first texts, especially the pre-analytic ones, is brought out and discussed. Transference enables Freud to send back to back suggestion and persuasion and to take on the specific nature of the therapeutic relation. However the remaining bonds between psychoanalysis and therapies through hypnosis as well as through persuasion from which the cognitive approach is probably inherited are still far from being clarified. |
