| Summary, etc. | Il n’est plus possible dans notre monde « naturaliste » ou « désenchanté » d’interroger des puissances naturelles suprahumaines, et l’ordalie, mode de preuve universel dans le droit antique, n’y a donc plus cours. Les questions de religion et de spiritualité sont censées, aujourd’hui, rester confinées dans une sphère intime et privée, mais le jugement de Dieu est omniprésent dans l’univers « virtuel » du jeu et de l’ensemble des productions culturelles. Entre le monde désenchanté et cet univers virtuel, qui devraient rester séparés, existent cependant des formes intermédiaires, survivances d’un monde animiste ou analogique. Les conduites ordaliques chez les toxicomanes, les adolescents, les joueurs excessifs en sont un exemple, constituant des formes dérivées, « futilisées » ou « vulgarisées » d’une ordalie qui résiste aux changements de monde. |

| Summary, etc. | It is no longer possible in our “naturalistic” or “disenchanted” world to question superhuman natural powers. The trial by ordeal, a universal mode of proof in ancient law, is therefore no longer valid. Today, questions of religion and spirituality are supposed to remain confined to an intimate and private sphere, but the judgement of God is omnipresent in the “virtual” universe of the game and of all cultural productions. Between the disenchanted world and this virtual universe, which should remain separate, there are however intermediate forms, survivals of an animist or analogue world. Ordinary behaviours among drug addicts, adolescents and excessive gamblers are an example of this, constituting derivative, “used” or “popularized” forms of an ordeal that resists changes in the world. |
