Summary, etc. | Si la possession d’un diplôme est nécessaire pour accéder à un emploi stable et supérieur, elle n’est pas une condition suffisante : d’autres atouts entrent en jeu. Malgré la loi française pour l’égalité devant l’emploi pénalisant les discriminations salariales fondées sur l’apparence physique, quelques études invitent à penser que l’apparence peut recevoir une valeur sur le marché du travail. À partir d’une enquête par entretien, cet article examine la place qu’elle occupe dans les stratégies d’insertion professionnelle développées par des étudiant(e)s souhaitant intégrer les professions de cadre commercial. Plus particulièrement, il analyse la manière dont ces derniers travaillent leur look pour faciliter leur entrée dans la vie active. |

Summary, etc. | A university degree may be necessary to obtain a good stable job, but it isn’t enough, there are other pieces in the job-search puzzle. Despite a French Equal Opportunity Employment law penalizing wage discrimination based on physical appearance, the results of several recent studies suggest that appearance is a selling point on the job market. Using interview-based investigation techniques, the study reported in this article examines the place of appearance in the career launching strategies of students looking to enter sales management positions. Specifically, the author analyzes the way that these students work on their look in order to facilitate their entrance into the work force. |
