| Summary, etc. | En de rares occasions, la télévision devient « télévision cérémonielle » et interrompt le cours habituel de ses programmes pour retransmettre des funérailles. Dans cet article, il s’agit d’étudier les 52 funérailles télévisées identifiées depuis les origines de la télévision en France qui proposent aux téléspectateurs une expérience médiatique et collective des obsèques en direct. Comment ces funérailles télévisées figurent-elles les morts ? Comment impliquent-elles les vivants ? L’analyse des pratiques rituelles et médiatiques liées à la mort et aux évolutions de celles-ci permettront de mieux comprendre les procédés de « confrontation distanciée » à la mort mis en place par la télévision. Ce faisant, il s’agira d’éclairer la participation de la télévision à la production de figures tutélaires, dont les évolutions révèlent les formalisations et reformalisations – en rapport avec la question de la « déformalisation » – de rapports à la mort. |

Detached Involvement related to Death and Birth of FigureheadsOn rare occasions, television creates « Media Events » and « Broadcasts the History »: it interrupts the course of its regular programs to broadcast funerals. Since the origins of French television, 52 funerals have been broadcasted. All of these programs give viewers the opportunity to experience live collective funeral. How do these programs portray dead persons? How do they involve the living ones (the viewers)? The analysis of ritual and media practices related to death and their changes will help understanding the process of « detached involvement » about death established by television. In doing so, it will help demonstrate that television constructs figureheads, which changes reveal formalizations and reformalizations (in relation to the issue of « deformalization ») related to the death. |
