| Summary, etc. | Il s’agit, à propos du Jeu de la Mort, faux jeu télévisé reproduisant la fameuse expérience de Stanley Milgram et visant à susciter un débat critique sur les phénomènes de soumission à l’autorité, de questionner trois aspects défendus par les producteurs, notamment scientifiques, du programme. On soulignera d’abord le double parti pris (scientifique et militant) des protagonistes : construire une démonstration scientifique du pouvoir quasi démiurgique acquis par la télévision au seuil du XXIe siècle. On interrogera ensuite les fondements théoriques et méthodologiques de l’émission, soit le recours quasi exclusif à une discipline, la psychologie sociale. Enfin, on analysera les effets régressifs (régression épistémologique et politique) de l’indifférence des protagonistes aux apports des sciences sociales, c’est-à-dire aux explications « du social par le social ». |

| Summary, etc. | Much ado about (nearly) nothing ? About Broadcasting and Reception of the Television Programme «The Death Game »This paper is about a television programme called « The Death Game », which recreates the famous Milgram experiment, in the setting of a fake TV game. Our contribution aims dealing with three claims made by the producers and social scientist who framed this show. Firstly we question both their commitment against and their scientific speech about what they describe as the frightening powers of television at the beginning of the 21st century. Secondly we discuss the theoretical and methodological foundations of the programme, i.e. the monomaniac uses of Psychosociology. Thirdly we challenge, the regressive effects of producer’s indifference to social sciences, their complete lack of interest for explaining « the social by social ». |
