| Summary, etc. | L’analyse des représentations photographiques de la mort lors de la couverture des conflits des Grands Lacs entre 1994 et 1997 permet d’établir deux constats principaux. D’abord, la mort occupe une place relativement conséquente au regard du nombre de clichés, de la place prise par les photographies et de la diversité des formes de représentation ; cependant, entre euphémisation et exacerbation, sa présence reste très variable, souvent stéréotypée et fondée sur l’iconographie de la douleur. Ensuite, ces représentations constituent un enjeu majeur pour certains acteurs qui tentent d’exercer une influence sur l’utilisation faite de la mort dans les médias ; la couverture photographique donne alors à voir une reconstruction de l’événement qui résulte des interactions complexes entre la communication institutionnelle, la sphère médiatique et les acteurs sur le terrain (belligérants, humanitaires). |

The photographic Representations of the Conflicts of the African Great Lakes in the French Media (1994-1997)The analysis of the photographic representations of death in the media coverage of the conflicts of Great Lakes between 1994 and 1997 allows to establish two main reports. First of all, death occupies a relatively consequent place towards the number of pictures, the taken place by photos and the diversity of the forms of representation ; however, its presence remains very variable, euphemized or exacerbated, stereotypical and based on the iconography of the pain. These representations constitute also a major issue for some actors who try to exercise an influence on the use which is made of death in the media; the photographic coverage then shows us a reconstruction of event which results from complex correlations between institutional communication, media sphere and actors on the ground. |
