| Summary, etc. | RESUMé Cet article analyse la genèse d’une communauté scientifique francophone dédiée à l’étude de la parole afin d’examiner ce qui est en jeu lorsqu’une science « humaine » se dote d’instruments sophistiqués et fait appel à des spécialistes de ces instruments. Dans le cas étudié, l’accroissement de l’instrumentation s’est accompagné d’une redéfinition des objets et des méthodes de recherche. D’une étude de la parole comme production humaine on est de plus en plus passé au développement de techniques de communication entre hommes et machines. |

| Summary, etc. | ABSTRACT : HUMAN SCIENCES AND INSTRUMENTATION : WHO IS THE INSTRUMENT OF WHOM ? This article analyses the genesis of a french speaking scientific community specialized in the study of speech , in order to examine what is at stake when a “human” science acquire sophisticated instruments and hire specialists of these instruments. In the studied case, the increasing of instrumentation is followed by a new definition of objects, and research methods. From a study of speech as a human action, one more and more moved to the making of human-machine communication technology. |

| Summary, etc. | RESUMEN : CIENCIAS HUMANAS Y INSTRUMENTACIóN : ¿ QUIéN INSTRUMENTA QUIéN ? Este artículo analiza la génesis de una comunidad científica francófona dedicada al estudio del habla con el fin de examinar todo lo que está en juego cuando una ciencia “humana” se dota de instrumentos sofisticados y recurre a los especialistas de estos instrumentos. En el caso estudiado, el aumento de los instrumentos se ha visto acompañado de una redefinición de los objetos y de los métodos de la investigación. De un estudio del habla como una producción humana, se ha pasado más bien al desarrollo de técnicas de comunicación entre los seres humanos y las máquinas. |
