| Summary, etc. | On April 6, 1917, the U.S. Congress voted to recognize the state of war between the United States and Germany. On June 13, 1917, General John Joseph Pershing, Commander-in-Chief of the American Expeditionary Force in Europe, landed at Boulogne-sur-Mer (Pas-de-Calais). Soon after, a vast military infrastructure of roads, railroads, barracks and warehouses was laid out for the American Expeditionary Force between the ports of what is now the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region and the front. After the armistice of November 11, 1918, these vast infrastructures were dismantled and the land returned to agriculture. Today, aerial surveys and the study of IGN zenithal snapshots taken after 1950 reveal the scale of these facilities, which were created to ensure regular supplies to the front from a distance. In Bas-Berry, two sites, the Third Aviation Instruction Center west of Issoudun and the intermediate supply depot n°2 at Montierchaume, have been studied in this way. |

| Summary, etc. | Le 6 avril 1917, le Congrès américain vote la reconnaissance de l’État de guerre entre les États-Unis et l’Allemagne. Le 13 juin 1917, le général John Joseph Pershing, le commandant en chef du Corps expéditionnaire américain en Europe, débarque à Boulogne-sur-Mer (Pas-de-Calais). Peu après, de vastes infrastructures militaires comportant des routes, des voies ferrées, des baraquements et de multiples entrepôts sont installés au profit du Corps expéditionnaire américain entre les ports de l’actuelle région Nouvelle-Aquitaine et le front. Après l’Armistice du 11 novembre 1918, ces vastes infrastructures sont démantelées et les terrains rendus à l’agriculture. De nos jours des prospections aériennes et l’étude des clichés zénithaux de l’IGN, postérieurs à 1950, permettent de prendre conscience de l’ampleur de ces installations qui avaient été créées pour assurer à distance un approvisionnement régulier du front. En Bas-Berry deux sites, le Third Aviation Instruction Center à l’ouest d’Issoudun et le dépôt d’approvisionnement intermédiaire n°2 de Montierchaume, ont fait l’objet d’une étude de ce genre. |
