| Summary, etc. | Dès le XVIe siècle, l’abondance de la morue dans les eaux de l’Atlantique Nord a attiré les pêcheurs européens. Au départ la pêche était migratoire, c’est-à-dire que les bateaux quittaient la France au printemps pour pêcher dans les eaux de Terre-Neuve et du golfe du Saint-Laurent et les équipages revenaient en Europe avant l’hiver. Cette activité s’est peu à peu sédentarisée au cours du XVIIe siècle, notamment à Saint-Pierre et Miquelon. Au début du XIXe siècle, puis à nouveau au début du XXe siècle, l’organisation de la pêche s’est modifiée drastiquement et ces changements ont impacté la société de même que les infrastructures de l’archipel de Saint-Pierre et Miquelon. Couplées aux données historiques, les données archéologiques amassées lors de la fouille de l’anse à Bertrand ont permis d’illustrer la vie matérielle et architecturale de même que les changements qui sont survenus dans la société de pêcheurs installée à Saint-Pierre et Miquelon depuis 350 ans. |

| Summary, etc. | Since the 16th century, the abundance of cod in the water of the North Atlantic attracted European fishers. Beginning as a seasonal migratory activity with the fleets leaving Europe in the Spring to fish in Newfoundland and the Golf of Saint-Lawrence, the crews were coming back home before winter. Throughout the centuries fisherfolks began to settle in North Atlantic territories, including Saint-Pierre et Miquelon. At the beginning of the 19th century and again at the beginning of the 20th century, the organization of the fishery changed drastically, and those modifications impacted the society as well as the infrastructure of Saint-Pierre et Miquelon. In association with historical data, archaeological data recovered at Anse à Bertrand illustrates the material and architectural life of the fisherfolk as well as the changes that happen in the fishing industry over 350 years. |
