D’un autre côté, il adhère pleinement au monde juif, dont il ne partage cependant pas la foi religieuse. S’il ne peut empêcher la haine d’enfoncer un coin entre les deux faces d’une même humanité, ses avertissements frappent par leur fermeté et leur lucidité. |

| Summary, etc. | The work of Jakob Wassermann (1873-1934), an internationaly famous novelist, whose figure has fallen today into unfair oblivion, passionately questions the double, Jewish and German, identity. As a friend of Schnitzler’s and Hofmannsthal’s he is deeply rooted in the German language and culture. On the other hand, he fully adheres to the Jewish world, even if he does not share its religious values. Indeed he cannot prevent hatred between the two sides of one same humanity, but one can but be struck by his forceful and lucid warnings. |
