General note 11
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. ‪This article studies the formation of transnational contrepublics drawing upon the analysis of organizational and communicational practices of queer festivals. While we usually think of counter-publics as discursive entities in opposition to the dominant ideas of the public sphere, the article broadens this conception by highlighting the activist practices, as constitutive to the counter-publics that unfold in the public space. Queer festivals are an exemplary case for this approach. Beyond queer theories about the fluidity of gender identities, festivals allow us to understand the ways in which their publics are addressed. In a second step, activist practices inform us about the transnationalization of the queer movement, which is in line with the idea of moving beyond all borders (gender, sexual, national). The fieldwork took place in festivals of five European capitals between 2011 and 2013.‪
