520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | The emergence in the mid-1990s of a press financed by businessmen marks the passage in Egypt of a “state” press, dependent on political power, heir to the period of "“nationalization” during the years 1960, to a new type of journalism that places the transformations of society at the center of the process of production of information. The thesis of this article, based on the results of a field survey carried out between 2012 and 2015, is that the transformations that the Egyptian press is going to experience with the advent of private funding, must be analyzed within the framework of a new “place of production” of information. The study of this place of production presupposes to be attentive to the political and social context, the conditions of production, the way of management and financing, the organization of journalistic work, the diversity of profits and motivations of businessmen who invested in the media in Hosni Mubarak’s time, and the career paths of the main actors concerned, journalists. |
