| Summary, etc. | Les archives de la ville de Saint-Omer conservent un ensemble remarquable de documents relatifs à une grande querelle entre un certain nombre de paysans de la région voisine de Cassel et les bourgeois de Saint-Omer entre 1417 et 1422. Les témoignages relatifs à ces événements sont très intéressants du point de vue de l’histoire culturelle et de l’anthropologie historique. L’épisode documenté par ces sources couvre une guerre privée de longue haleine et de grande envergure qui a pris naissance dans une dispute sur l’honneur de gens ordinaires et a ensuite dégénéré au point de menacer la sécurité publique et le commerce. |

| Summary, etc. | In the municipal archives of Saint-Omer, a remarkable set of records is conserved dealing with a large-scale feud between a number of peasants of the area around Kassel and the bourgeois of Saint-Omer between 1417 and 1422. First-hand accounts dealing with these events are very interesting from the perspective of cultural history and historical anthropology. The episode documented by these sources covers a long and large-scale private war that originated in a dispute over the honour of ordinary people and then escalated to the point where public safety and commerce were threatened. |
