| Summary, etc. | Les « films perdus » de la catastrophe de Courrières : des survivants au cœur d’un succès cinématographique. La catastrophe de Courrières est l’une des plus grandes tragédies minières de tous les temps. En mars 1906, un effondrement de galeries provoque la mort de 1 099 mineurs. L’évènement, très médiatisé par la presse, suscite un émoi national. Des « films perdus », absents des archives cinématographiques et méconnus des historiens, ont été tournés par les cinéastes au moment des faits. Ils montrent notamment les funérailles des victimes, l’intervention des sauveteurs dans les mines, et les survivants à l’infirmerie. Ces derniers collaborent étroitement à la réalisation et à la promotion commerciale de ces films, en acceptant d’être enregistrés sur leur lit d’hôpital, avec leurs proches, ou en participant à une tournée médiatique dans la capitale. Les vues de la catastrophe sont distribuées en masse dans l’Europe francophone de mars à juin 1906, grâce notamment à un important réseau de projectionnistes ambulants. |

| Summary, etc. | The Courrieres disaster is one of the greatest mining tragedies of all time. In March 1906, a gallery collapse caused the death of 1,099 miners. The event, highly publicized by the press, caused a national emotion. “Lost films”, absent from film archives and unknown to historians, were shot by the filmmakers at the time of the events. They showed in particular the funerals of the victims, the intervention of the rescuers in the mines, and the survivors in the infirmary. The survivors collaborated in the production and commercial promotion of these films, by agreeing to be recorded on their hospital beds, with their loved ones, or by participating in a media tour in the capital. Views of the disaster were distributed in French-speaking Europe from March to June 1906, thanks in particular to a large network of itinerant projectionists. |
